Ascent Trip Report***Sierra Club Outing***
led by Mat Kelliher, Jimmy Quan
Jimmy up front from start all the way to Baldy, I'm in front for the rest. Started from Mankar Flat to Baldy Notch, then up Devil's Backbone Trail to the "Devil's Backbone" peakbagger.com bump (which has a really nice view of the trail below and is actually worth hiking out onto it to see) then on to Mt Harwood, Mt Baldy, and West Baldy. Patrick and Bruce left us at West Baldy summit and headed down the ski hut trail; we returned the way we came up with a stop at the Baldy Notch Lodge for some icy-cold beers before the slog out on the road.
Despite the high temp forecast of 66 F at 7800', it was really pretty hot out there. An occasional cool breeze helped quite a bit, but when it was still that sun beating down on us really felt hot. Good trip, fun day.
Mileage and gain for entire trip was 14.5 miles with 4,800' gain. 9 hours, 45 minutes including stop for beers at the Lodge
