Ascent Trip Report

Tower is the best maintained, tallest, and safest tower I have found in Maine. I would guess it is about 65 feet above ground; taller and easier to climb then say the one on Mount Kineo. It was constructed in 1949. The Tower trail (blaze blue) is shorter to the top - about 1.0 mile so I susptected more aggressive and steeper. It actually contours the slopes and has little grade and a lot of lower water crossings (wooden and rock "bridges") in the trail. The blueberry trail I read is 1.3 miles and more rugged (on the south side of the maintenance road). Many just hike up the maintenance road (Tower Road) which is the most direct way up or down at around 0.9 miles. I came down this way. There are no cars allowed up this road. It is all hiking. Dogs are allowed on all three. Views from the tower are 360. Without the tower there are no views. Pretty popular place. Add gain on Tower road due to alignment over subpeak saddles. Add gain on way down is for climbing the tower and the maintenance road has some saddle regains.
