Ascent Trip Report

I was turned back at Croyden when opening gates by a herder, but he did give me the owners phone number to to ask permission, but said not to call that day (Sunday). I was determined that day and found an alternate, but here is his number in case anyone wants to ask for permission to access this side. Note, the gates were not locked here.

Don't say you got the number from me though.
Also not the owner at the base of the gorgeous Pine Canyon road explicitly denied permission when I asked him.

My Route:
After trying to access multiple routes that looked promising on satellite (Argyle Canyon from the north (gated at the painball facility), various Croyden area routes) and being turned back by gates or people in the case of the unmarked, unlocked gates near Croyden. I went back to Morgan area of Spring Hollow Rd, which is gated, however, the right hand fork of Roswell where the gravel dump/mine? is has a road that goes up to an open gate followed a 1/2 mile or so later by a locked gate at ~5600 feet. I mountain biked from here on a good dirt road that traverses to Spring Hollow Road on maps, from here you can take a very old road that has tall grass, but little real brush, but is quite flat and not rocky after the initial couple hundred yards. This is bisected by a traversing road that is used at the start of Devils Hollow. Here The road goes through woods and is not used much, but is very scenic and lush. All of this was still mtn bikable. You top out on the ridge after a small meadow and pond and can take a road up to Durst until snowdrifts stopped me. Saw a coyote hung from a tree fork here. A ridgewalk picks up where the road peters out. Almost stepped on a rattlesnake here! No register. Fantastic views of Mt. Ogden, Thurston peak and the gape for I-84 affords nice vistas of the Salt Lake, Fremont Island and out to Pilot Peak. Its a shame private property has isolated this beautiful and otherwise accessible vista, the upper half of the west side appears to be in very good shape and may not even be grazed at all.
