Ascent Trip Report

Decided on the spur of the moment to attempt Mellenthin after summiting Peale at 7:50 in the morning. Mellenthin, of the three middle La Sal peaks, stands much further than either Tuk or Peale, and was correspondingly much more challenging. There were some faint trails heading toward the mountain from the Tuk/Peale/Mellenthin triple divide, but they were easy to lose along the way. My big takeaway from this hike is that if the trail is lost, stick to the west sides of the ridges when approaching this mountain, otherwise you're entering crumbly Class 3 territory.
