Ascent Trip ReportWeather forecast was 93°F with Thunderstorms. True enough. Despite the hot weather, Yosemite looked magical: Merced river in full flow and covered with dense fog; Half Dome framed with huge cumulonimbus cloud; Falls at their best. Hiked to top of the Falls, Yosemite Point and Eagle Peak. Encountered small patches of snow and flooded meadows near Eagle Peak. Nice granite summit, but it can be walked-up. To me, views are unmatched by other valley destinations. Highly recommend. Proceeded to El Capitan through some mosquito and midge infested forest. Summit is flat, views aren't as great as from Eagle. On the way down walked on Bobcat, close and personal. I was so paralyzed by the proximity of this sleek looking animal, which studied me for 20 seconds just few feet away. Finally tried to get camera out of backpack and spooked the animal away. Still made one frame with wide-angle lenses. From V4 trailhead at Camp 4 roundtrip of 19.5 miles in 8 hours. Drank 4 liters and sweated out twice as much. Hiked back to the main parking lot to tip over 20 miles. On the drive out saw Black Bear feeding in the meadows. Great sunset.Totaled 17 hrs with drive from Bay Area.
