Ascent Trip ReportFirst real summer hike of the year. It was hot and humid, about 75 at 9 a.m. and reached 94 at peak time.
Took about 2.25 hours to reach the top of South Moat with water rests to hydrate.
I was completely swamped with baby flies the entire time and made the trip up miserable. I think the cold held them back and the heat let them loose this weekend. THEY WERE FREAKING VICIOUS.
I think that this day being the first real humid day brought them out. I was bleeding from the vicious bites on my leg my arms and the back of my neck. They were flying into my ear, my mouth and buzzing around like vultures.
Out of all of the hikes I've done in the NH White Mts, this was by far the worst ever.
It wasn't until I reached the top where I found some refuge from the hungry, relentless critters. The wind kept all but some of the larger adult flies at bay.
