Ascent Trip Report

Took the Crest Trail up from Rustler Park Campground ($5 parking fee). Took the Crest Trail to the Chiricahua Trail (270A). If you start directly from the Crest Trail (which we did on the way up), there are quite a few fallen trees to climb over as well as a section of loose dirt with a pretty steep drop on one side, which my hiking buddy almost fell down. To avoid this on the way back, when we hit the sign that lists 3 different trails and states that Chiricahua Peak is 3 3/4 miles, we took the fork on the right (instead of traversing the hillside) which spit us out on the 4x4 road that connects Rustler and another campground, thus avoiding the fallen timber and loose section.
