Ascent Trip Report

Nine of our hiking club met at KTAO and carpooled to the ski valley. Three more (plus Freckles the dog) joined us later. Had a minor snafu on the way up. We crossed a log bridge (slippery and tricky) over the stream above the usual crossing because of high water.John decided to bushwhack up hill to the Long Canyon Trail instead of continuing on the trail. When the rest of us got there--no John. He apparently beat us to the spot, thought we were ahead and continued on. We worried he had fallen on the steep slope, so several headed back down to look for him. Eventually found him a mile or so ahead. We hit increasingly deeper snow drifts above 10,200 with slick slidy surfaces that were hard going. Some of us made it up to 11,000 feet (a few stopped bit lower). but no one wanted to plow ahead into the even deeper snow above.
