Ascent Trip ReportHeaded to NY to do the Blackhead range solo. Didn't have a partner today so no two-car one-way traverse so I planned on the traverse from Big Hollow TH and then turning around and coming back. I didn't know if I would have time for Caudal, but the range ended up easier than I expected probably because I just spent a week hiking at altitude in new mexico. I parked at Big Hollow road, started on the Black Dome trail, took the yellow trail past the Batavia Kill and ascended Blackhead via the Escarpment trail. I then did the whole traverse to Caudal, turned around, and came back, descending the Blackdamp trail the whole time. The escarpment trail is definitely steeper, so if doing a semi-loop, I would suggest ascending escarpment and descending blackdome trail. Nice wildlife, had a deer run across the trail 20 ft ahead of me, saw salamanders, frogs, snakes.
