Ascent of Mount Jefferson on 2017-06-04
|Date:||Sunday, June 4, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||10497 ft / 3199 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was done as a two-day trip. Day 1 we followed the Whitewater Trail to Jefferson Park Trail and onto the Jefferson Park Glacier to a camp at 8100'. This section was done predominantly on skis. The next day we again started on skis, eventually ditching them at the base of the North Ridge, where we each pulled out an ice tool to supplement our mountaineering axes. The ascent to the final scramble ridge is simple and easy to navigate, steep snow. The summit ridge proper was all rime ice, that was quite styrafoamy. We essentially soloed it up and down, occasionally setting a belay with pickets that may or may not have stopped a fall (psychological anchors). The ski out was icy, but still fun.
The GPX file included is a combination of the approach to camp and summit day ascent. The statistics listed in the "Up" section are for the entire trip, as I did not break it down between ascent and descent.
