Ascent Trip Report

It was 91F when I started this hike. I was starting a little later than I wanted. The trail was easy at first, but I was feeling the heat. Then the trail got steep and had switchbacks which made it harder. The trail surface also was a bit difficult because it was crumbled gravel and made my boots slide often. That said, it really didn't take much time until I made it over the final rise before the turn off to the Thumb. I saw the trail which goes to the top rise out of the low point in the trail before the turnoff. I followed this up, losing it twice but realizing my mistake and easily reconnecting with it. The trail reached the highest saddle, then went up the north side of the peak. I turned left at the solar panel and was at the top. I did have to use my hands for balance on the slippery trail so I'm going to call this one class 2. The top had incredible views in all directions. Unfortunately, this was a pollution alert day so the smog was strong, especially to the south. Despite the heat, I was feeling comfortable on the top and had an early lunch break. On the way down I slid a lot so I couldn't go as fast as I wanted. It was 97F at the bottom.
