Ascent Trip Report

I recommend taking the Sugar Pine trail instead of the fire road. The trail head is across the street from the Lake Cuyamaca Restaurant. It's a much prettier hike and isn't as exposed as the fire road, especially in spring. The trail terminates at the fire road North of the summit which is where you want to be before you make the .2 mile trek through the bushes to the top. The .2 miles to the top is miserable and slow going. I made the mistake of not returning the same way I came because it looked like a North-Eastern descent would be closer. It was much worse than heading due North. I'm surprised that this peak is on the list especially considering how many plants you have to trample to get to the top.
