Ascent Trip ReportOne of the more enjoyable Florida points. The Archbold Biological station is being developed and is open to the public. The road to the high area is across from the main entrance and locked and gated. However, the main office at the south end of the main research building had me fill out a release form and handed over the keys, with the invitation to drive in. I opted to walk to give myself a bit of a Florida hike. Really nice views from the top across the orange groves and Lake Placid. I visited each area, with the strong impression that the one closest to the road loop is the highest. There are sand tracks over or close to all the areas, although you have to bushwhack south a little for the smallest area. The gate to the fire tower at the top is unlocked... I was sooo tempted but behaved myself and did not climb. Doesn't seem like they mind visitors at all; could easily be stealthed but since they are so friendly might as well get permission!
