Ascent Trip ReportI approached from the north side on the Black Mountain Trail.
I drove a short distance past the last houses on Howe Hill Road, over the unmaintained section of road, which was muddy and rocky. I parked at a small cleared area (shown on topo map, and visible on sat image). Almost the entire clearing was covered by a huge mud puddle, but I found a small space to park along the perimeter.
The Black Mountain Trail isn't one of the prettier trails in the White Mountains, but it makes up for it by having good footing most of the way, with grades not too steep for the most part. I made good time up to the summit ledges where I spent ten minutes enjoying the view. One other small group was up there, and a couple of them said they were visiting from New Mexico.
I then made good time once again back down to my car, and headed out.
