Ascent Trip ReportThis was the last named county highpoint I had left to bag in Illinois and it was an easy one. Surprisingly, the summit communication tower access road was not gated nor posted. Any experienced county highpointer will testify to how rare this is. You are able to drive up a short paved driveway to a parking area directly beside the fenced tower with no worries of the trespassing issues usually associated with county highpoints supporting communication towers. I was so surprised at this unusual occurrence that I took my victory photo beside the fenced tower before I noticed the actual highpoint was a short distance to the east in a newly planted corn field. The slight mound was obvious and it was easy to step between the corn rows without damaging any plants. This would be a very difficult highpoint to bag when the corn gets high, so visit it out of the growing season or very early like I did. With nothing obscuring the view in the middle of a crop field, there is a good view in all directions, but you are not that much higher than the surrounding area, so don't expect an exciting vista.
