Ascent Trip Report

From Hwy 5, take Dog Creek Road exit and drive west approximately 9.5 miles on Dog Creek Road to a hairpin turn (pavement ends in 3.8 miles, but the dirt roads are in good-to-excellent condition for logging trucks...drivable for most passenger vehicles). Leave Dog Creek road before it takes a sharp turn to the north and take the logging road south that ascends the ridge that connects with Dog Creek Mtn. After about 1.5 miles, you reach the north end of the peak that has been largely clear cut. Hike up this north ridge to the summit, or one can drive a few tenths of a mile further and start up the steep NW slope closer to the summit. Either way, there's almost no brush to deal with. The SW ridge appears more brushy, so don't start here unless you enjoy bushwhacking. These roads are seeing a lot of logging activity lately, so look out for logging trucks. Not much of a view from the top of Dog Creek Mtn, since this portion of the mtn has not been logged extensively. If you want a great view from a peak, continue south to Schell Mtn.
