Ascent Trip ReportThis clockwise loop hike included summiting Shaly Peak and Mount Lincoln.
Total Distance: 4.2 mi.
Total Ascent: 2870'
The road into East Lee Canyon is rough and somewhat overgrown in spots. 4x4 and high clearance help. There are several stock troughs along the road, but I didn't see any cattle on this day. There's a good parking/camping/turnaround area about 7.1 miles in from Hwy 121 in a grove of trees with a scenic rock outcrop nearby. About 0.3 mi. further up the road is the last turnaround, at a rusty iron stock trough with goldfish in it. The trough is a good departure point for either Shaly or Lincoln. From the summit of Lincoln, the Stillwater Range is spread out before you. To the NE is what appears to be an easy ridge jaunt over to Job Peak, the high point which is actually 2.75 miles away as the crow flies. Slaughter Peak and Table Mountain with the ridge between are just to the SW. While visiting this portion of the Stillwater Range, one can experience great hiking, solitude, outstanding views and perhaps even a sighting of bighorn sheep known to pass thru the area.
