Ascent Trip ReportTook shuttle from Avalon to Black Jack junction and started hiking from there. Hiked up road past two gates and fences to summit that had a strange circular configuration around a silo looking structure in middle. Found a benchmark in tact.
Made a loop hike with Orizaba, Peak 2080, Black Jack, Fletcher and Peak 1585. Had arrangements to be picked up at Black Jack Junction, but finished peaks early and had the option of walking down the road a mile to bus stop or up the road about 1.5 miles to the airport and a cold beer. It was a very hot day, so you can guess which option we chose. Got back to Avalon in time to enjoy some great nachos at Pete's place (bus driver's excellent suggestion) before catching the 7:00 pm ferry home.
Very hot day kept bearable by some strong winds. Lots of Fennel growing out by Orizaba and the whole place smelled like licorice. The fields were still partly green, but most flowers had already bloomed. We did catch some yellow Poppies, white Morning Glories, pink Mariposa Lillies, red Monkey Flowers and a lot of bright yellow Prickly Pear Cactus. It was a beautiful clear day with great views.
