To complete the day, I ventured from Benton County to nearby Warren County. Being only 7 “crow” miles and 10 highway miles apart, future hikers should bundle these two into the same trip. The really efficient should also consider adding Iroquois County, Illinois, which is only about 10 road miles away to complete a neat trifecta of 3 close HP’s.

The Warren County HP lies nearly due south of the Benton County HP region. From Benton County, return to US41, and drive south past the town of Boswell. Turn right (west) on the Benton-Warren county line road. Drive 2mi to CR 500W and turn left (south). Continue about 0.4mi to a crest in the road, and pull over and park.

Your eyes should confirm that the land generally rises across the field to your east. Walk about 1/4 mile to reach the highest ground near the fence line that is shown on the topo map. I even crossed the fence to inspect the ground on the other side since the topo shows the contour spilling over the fence into the next field. Wander around to decide for yourself where the actual HP is. I then returned to my car to claim my 3rd county of the day, a pleasing total given the shortness of the day’s available time.

To summarize the day, the 3 counties of White, Benton, and Warren are quite easy for any hiker to compete when the crops are not in the field. And, if you have the time, the addition of Iroquois County, IL should be another easy, successful county. Consider this 3-4 county package when you are in the area.
