Ascent Trip ReportStarted at the Road Prong Trail where it crosses the Appalachian Trail beside the Clingmans Dome Road. Hiked southbound past the Roaring Fork trail and the trail to the Mount Collins shelter. From there the trail ascends about 1/3 mile to the summit. It is wooded and not pointed but its obvious that you're at the high point. On the east side (left going south) there is a rock about three feet wide and twenty feet from the trail that contains the benchmark. Flagging tape was there by the rock and an overhanging branch. There is also a wooden sign on a tree now with the name and elevation. |
