Ascent Trip Report2012-09-16
A three day trip with David Salinger. On 09/15 we hiked Andrew's Creek Trail (YIKES! this is a horse trail...I love hores and I ride...but this is truly a trail for horseback...sandy, slow to gain elevation, a bit tedious for human foot travel...) to Rock Lake Camp (south end of Andrews-Amos Ridge). On 09/16 climbed Peepsight, Wilma, and Freds Mountain by staying on the ridge from Peepsight to Freds Mountain, and traversing the ridge over all of its summits to its northernmost end (Fred's true summit). We then descended the NE slope of Freds Mountain to the valley below and crossed Glory Creek, then headed towards the WNW ridge of Amos and ascended Amos (some good, fun scrambling to gain the ridge). We traversed on the ridge from Amos to Andrew Peak's summit, then descended to our camp at Rock Lake. 0n 09/17 hiked back to car at Andrews Creek TH. Note: I am convinced that the makers of the USGS map put the name of Rock Lake on the wrong lake! The lake NE of Peepsight is truly a rock lake! It is a very shallow lake, filled evenly with boulders. All of the boulders stick out of the shallow water. This lake, just west and south of Crazy Man pass is the true Rock Lake!
