Ascent Trip ReportLate start after spending 5 hours in ER on Saturday after Sean took an angle grinder to his left pinky. All clean and stitched up with a splint so not to bend it he still thought he could manage this easy ski. He had recently gone up this and other peaks in the area with Noel.
Parked in first pullout after Blewett pass. Snow was pretty hard. Easy going up and well marked cross country trails. Headed up 'Tronsem head loop trail'. My inner heels on both feet needed some bandaid wrap attention at the point where Sean and Noel had left trail on snowshoes to head up. After my first aid we continued in trail a bit further and ascended up little hills, staying closer to the gully and eventually traversing climbers left to stay on easier gentle terrain for a ski ascent. Then once in ridge did a long traverse over to the summit. Looked a bit like some weather was coming so we didn't stay too long. Snow was quite slick with a thick crust making turning pretty difficult. Not my favorite so very glad it was all quite low angle terrain. Lots of krrrrrrrrrrrrr - krrrrrrrrrrr scraping sliding snowplow turns on the way down. Still nice to be out and NOT on Mailbox ;-)
Even going down the super easy cross country trail was hard given the uneven snow from skinny skis and snowshoes all frozen up. Passed a couple on or holding skinny cc skis on way down. getting to be spring for sure as even Ava was breaking through the crust and doggy postholing which frustrates her to no end! Also nice for her to be leg wart free and no bleeding on the snow. I guess our skis were helpful in that regard.
Sean's hand stood up well and he even used the mitten I found for him since gloves don't work with a splint. Nice mostly sunny day to be out spending some quality time. I did end up with a quarter sized blister in my left inner heel. Must get the boot liner adjusted again....
