Ascent Trip Report

Cold start. Neg 4. Met Donna Dearborne! Monster hiker from NH and KT and I went in ahead of 3 others for Panter and Couch, having done Santa in Januray ( i think). Hard crust snow from recent thaw freeze. Water crossings were difficult to navigate. first broken bridge we straddled a balance beam over the Santa River drainage. The second was really moving and I reconned upstream to find nothing, then down to find that the others had caught up and managed a broken spruce limb across a narrow and we worked over it. Santa express not broken. Sun shining as we made our way in Hillsound spikes the 2.4 miles to the Beaver Damn near Bradley Pond. I switched back to my Test MSRS. GREAT assist with the 1.5 mile up. The heel lifts are tall and fantastic for ADK HPS! Some dusty snow here and there and the creeks required a climb down, and then scramble up the other side of about 10 feet. 2 years ago.. I saw no creek. Made it to Herald Square by about 1230 with the 0800 start. Then over to Panther which wasn't easy. moving the trees that I didn't expect to see with low depth. Next stop Herald Square, Time Square and then onto Couch.
