Ascent Trip Report

My friend and I stayed in Kingston, NY after climbing Hunter and Overlook the day before. This made for a much shorter trip to Red Hill than if we had gone home. The last stretch of road to the TH was still closed, as it's seasonal, but I took the risk and went past the sawhorse sign, testing the road the whole way down that last half mile or so for ice, leaving myself the option to back out if it got too bad. Luck was on our side and we were able to make it down to the parking area and back with no trouble at all. Knew it was risky, but it paid off and saved us mileage, elevation and time on our feet.

The hike itself was nice. Not too much left in terms of snow. Mostly just the same 1-2" of fresh powder that we saw on the other hikes the day before. We did the whole trip in just Microspikes. Weather was about the same as the day before as well. Bitter cold and windy. Didn't stay long at the top befor heading back. Total time was 1:15 for my 17th winter fire tower and 4th out of the 5 Catskill tower hikes.
