Ascent Trip ReportPlanning to follow Dean Gaudet's track, I headed to Scarpet Peak with fear of only one thing, rain. Barking dogs and angry landowners would not be a concern today. I found the route to be very enjoyable, challenging during the first half of the ascent, and assume it is very scenic. The views were limited today by the rain and fog. I passed by some old ranch equipment, an abandoned house, and a tractor near the summit. Although this is clearly marked public land on the maps and press releases, the feeling throughout the hike was that it is not. Many colored ribbons marked my entire route, erasing any fears I had as they looked like markers for a race that was held here recently. Also there were well worn tire tracks along most of the higher portions of this route, I'm hoping that means POST is working these areas frequently! Once this is developed, it is going to be a beautiful and likely popular hiking area, today I saw only 3 other people.
