Ascent of Estes Cone on 2017-03-03Other People: | Solo Ascent Only Party on Mountain | Date: | Friday, March 3, 2017 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Estes Cone | Location: | USA-Colorado | Elevation: | 11006 ft / 3354 m |
Ascent Trip ReportBroke trail the entire way past the Longs Peak Trail turnoff. Very little sign of traffic on this trail at all. Seems odd for the amount of winter hiking that goes on in this area and this is an accessible peak.
Missed the turnoff on the way up, so some extra elevation and mileage just for fun! Didn't really need it at all of the trailbreaking made this day a bigtime butt-kicker.
Beautiful views on top! Of course. Impossible to keep to the trail past the Storm Pass junction and even difficult between Moore Park and Storm Pass. There are sections where it was difficult to locate the trail and big sections where I was surely not even on the trail.
Took off the snowshoes and went in spikes for the last 200 feet or so. |
