Ascent Trip ReportApproached via East Mesa fire road. Record setting rains the previous night had water flowing everywhere in the park but minimal mud on the way to the summit despite streams flowing throughout the trail. The constant sound of water rushing through Descanso Creek was my companion on the way up. The views from the summit surpassed expectation, quite stunning actually in the afternoon light with the constantly evolving clouds mixed with blue sky shrouding the tip of the summit of Cuyamaca to the north.
The register jar was full of water as the lid was busted but the newest register is was bagged and dry. The old ones weren't so lucky.
Not sure if it was the lingering mix of sun and blowing clouds, the fact that all the rain this year has maxed out the natural growth in the park, or the solitude but the area seemed more intensely alive than ever.
