Ascent Trip Report

Mar 15 2015 Sunday
Before Whiteford MD we drove on Quarry Road to where it is blocked, then we hiked a bit north and found the intended hill or heap. It was the most up-effort of the day, with a good amount of rock to go over or around.
We drove west to the other group of five HP areas for Harford co. The sun had set by the time we got to the eastmost of them, accessible from Carea Road. We took the half-mile hike across fields to get to the point, discussing where the Mason-Dixon Line, the stateline is.
Back at the car I asked if he would like to get one more, meaning one more county highpoint area for Harford. A moment of misunderstanding, then he agreed. We drove around to the next one going west. It was dark by now, or late twilight. Again we discussed where the stateline is. We hiked a bit north and south at the right place. Now my GPS was dead, so I couldn't get the latitude reading at the sign.
Feb 18 2017 Saturday
Arriving at the Harford MD remaining coHP places, started at the northwest one, I hiked to the south farm building, then to the west side of the red barn, then across the state highway and along its margin for a short distance. I then went east and parked at the former Gettys Oil station. The orchard was plainly higher, and way to the south at the south edge of a band of trees it rose and could be higher there. I went back there. Then I drove to the south area. Since my arrival was plainly noted I went to the farmhouse, greeted the farmer and told him what I sought. He knew that he was high. I showed him the
topographic map. He wasn't familiar with reading them and mistook the scale. I asked where was the highest on his property. He thought right at the house, and I had to accept that.
