Ascent Trip ReportThis was a great peak. The trail was straightforward, and on the way down, we found an alternative trail rather than following the fire road down. There was even a register to sign and a bench to sit on. On the way back, getting to the parking lot on that alternative trail there were many switchbacks. Sometimes we were thinking "are we there yet?" There were great views and this mountain is higher than many of them in the surrounding area. It does look like it has a slightly shorter peak next to it so it almost looks like "twin peaks." Supposedly it was 0.5 miles from Mt.Disappointment, but all the winding to get there seemed a lot longer. We got there in a half hour. We finished the total hike with both Mt. Disappointment and San Gabriel in 3 hours with a break but we were really booking it. Originally, i on my way to Smith Mountain, but I got a flat tire and had to return my car to the shop to get it fixed. Luckily at the last minute, someone I contacted was able to pick me up from the car dealership so we could bag some peaks.
