Ascent of Chicago Ridge on 2017-02-01
|Date:||Wednesday, February 1, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||12714 ft / 3875 m|
Ascent Trip ReportStarted the ascent through the backcountry gate at Ski Cooper, skinned nearly to the top until Rocks were exposed and snow coverage was thin. We then finished the remaining 100-200 meters hiking/climbing without our packs/skis. Observing the Peaks and the potential ski lines surrounding us was astounding, the snow above tree line was extremely crusty due to nearly a week of temps pushing 40s and sun. Once you were into the bowl/tree line snow became soft and delightful to ride. Rode the three person chair back to the top of Ski Cooper Resort and took Trails End back to the car which was parked in the lot. We woke up at 430 am were on the skin track by 6 and back to the car by 1030. This was also our first time using skins/ we do however own touring skis/boots (BD boundary 107/ Salomon Guardian/ Salomon MTN Explore) and overall it was a very successful first ascent and descent of a real mountain in winter.
