Ascent Trip Report

Out with the Pete Arthur and KT. Treacherous drive up with snow, rain, deer and stopsigns. Went in behind a group that had a 4am start. We got off at 0800 and on a nicely packed down trail until the actual marked path to Bradley Pond began. River crossings were fine and frozen. MSR proto shoes performed fantastically on snowy scrambles and some creek water filled holes that developed after the thaw from a few days before. Into Santa Express by 0940. 2 hours easy to get up and ontop with more complete lack of color on top. Everything white with rime ice and the clouds afforded no depth perception. The freshly broken path up was navigable and the shoes grabbed superbly on the up. The down had a few moments of glissade, but on the whole, they grabbed much better then my KT's new Tubbs Flex Alps. Back to the trail by 2pm. Shot out to the car by 345. A return for the other two must happen. I understand that a twosome tried to get to couch and panther but couldn't get past herald square. One fellow lost a snowshoe in a spruce trap... oh well.. we got our mountain.
