Ascent Trip ReportUnfortunately, I visited the Atlanta City High Point on a weekend during a large event at a nearby arena. I was stuck in downtown traffic for over an hour and traveled less than 1 mile during that time. When I finally reached the high point area, there was no parking available. I did locate a private gated parking lot that was open and there was one area in the back of the lot that was a little secluded with no cars parked there. I was only 500 feet from the high point here, so I took a chance and decided to leave my car and make a quick dash for the "summit," which was on an elevated piece of ground between some apartments and a house. There were old steps with vegetation growing over them leading to this area and it appeared that a house may have once stood on this spot, but it is now an open yard. From the looks of the landscaping, however, this land has probably been worked considerably and the actual natural high point in Atlanta might be at the crest of the hill on the road a short distance away. You can visit both spots easily when you are there. I returned to my car after being gone only 6 minutes and no one had towed my car from the private lot. I drove away from the area happy to get away from the busy Atlanta traffic, but wondering why I feel I need to bag these city high points, since they rarely involve any real climbing.
