Ascent Trip Report

My parents had a camp at Caroga Lake so I spent my summers there and climbed Kane's Mountain at least once or twice a week. I had major back surgery the end of December, had cages built into my L3/L4 and had rods and had it fused. I could stand up w/o being in pain. I am very lucky that my surgery was a complete success. I have always been very active. My recuperation was slow but I was determined to exercise again. I dragged my boyfriend to Kane's Mountain where there was in some places 3/4 feet of snow. I had never climbed Kane's Mt with that much snow. It was a beautiful day and several people were snowshoeing. It felt great to hike after only have surgery two months prior. After we finished at Kane's Mt. we went up to Good Luck Lake and cross-country skied! Kane's Mt is a quick hike in good weather, you can go up and back in less than 45 minutes, a good hike for families too. My goal is to climb all of the fire towers in the next two years along with some high peaks as well. I had bought hiking poles just before I had my surgery so I would have some stability after my surgery. They are my best investment and well worth the $75.00 I spent. I never would have been able to climb the peaks that I have this summer without them.
