Ascent Trip Report

This is part of a three Highpoint trip report for Taum Sauk, Woodall Mountain, and Cheaha Mountain at the beginning of our trip to spend Christmas in Florida.

Taum Sauk - Highpoint #21
The trip started with a flight to St Louis. Through work I was able to get preferred status on American Airlines, which also means your checked baggage gets a preferred handling. We made our way down to the baggage claim and quickly found the correct carousel where the luggage for our flight would be coming off. I made the unfortunate mistake of saying my suitcase would come out before Kelli's and jinxed myself in the process. Eventually, the carousel came to a stop and I still did not have my suitcase. We checked in with the lost baggage personnel and was told to first check the oversize luggage area. No luck! We went back to the lost baggage desk and they were able to look up that my suitcase did in fact arrive in St Louis, but was nowhere to be found. I then went out to the baggage claim area and started playing Lovely Day on my phone. Kelli walks over and starts laughing. After the song completed we were discussing our options since we were not staying in St Louis and would be traveling around for the next two days. Just then the buzzer sound, the lights flashed, and the conveyor belt started up. We waiting in anticipation as we heard some noise down below. Finally a suitcase made its way up the ramp and dumped out in front of us. It was MY SUITCASE!!! It also happened to be the only additional bag to come out. We quickly grabbed the bag and made way for the rental car agency. We drove almost an hour south out of the city to the small town of Festis, MO to spend the night.
