Ascent Trip Report

Who knew that this little monandock in the Brushy Mountains would have such great views? I was beginning my recovery from a ruptured Achilles, so I needed something short. This park has only been open a few years and is a gem considering the Brushy Mts have little public land. I did what I think is the highlight loop of the park, beginning with the VMC Trail which ascends open rock face over 300 feet, quite steep. It is like Stone Mountain without any stairs. Then the upper loop passes two viewpoints on the summit. The first has expansive NW view of the biggest Brushy Mts, including Pores Knob. The second has a SW view of lesser peaks, but I was able to see the Black Mts. From both viewpoints I could see Grandfather Mt. The last leg of the trail passes by the top of the quarry, very popular with climbers. Even though this isn't a peak list hike, I highly recommend this.
