Ascent Trip Report It rained during the night, several times. I kept slipping off my pad and often slept bag right on the ground. I slept in, till 10:00 am, made my best preparations and set out towards Vestal Peak. Crossing Vestal Creek was tough. It was catch-as-catch-can route finding. I wondered whether I should have merely moved my camp up; or of only going so far.
From the Vestal-Arrow saddle, 12800', the going was more interesting. A cairned trail went past one couloir and stopped at the second, east-of-the-summit, to-the-shoulder couloir. It slightly resembled the couloir on Little Bear, but with more rocks and chocks in the bad of it. There were nice ledges at the top leading to the east summit, and a nice ridge over to the higher west summit, 13864. There was no register there. I left the top at 4:30 pm and got back to camp at 7:30 pm. My second night was much like my first, but with less rain.
Much later I asked Gerry Roach to describe the first couloir, between the east and west summits. He said it is harder.
