Ascent Trip ReportThis was a solo hike of these two Lower Peaks. From 210, exit at Baldwin, north to Grandview, left (west) to Grove, right (north) to Bailey Canyon Park. Ample parking, clean bathroom, no fee, open from dawn to dusk. It was a beautiful for the hike and this trail is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful trails in Southern California. From the parking lot hike west through the picnic area to a turnstile to a paved road. Turn right (north) and follow the road past a derbris basin. The road becomes a trail that first starts up the left (west) side of the canyon then shortly crosses over to the east side of the canyon. The trail then switches (I counted 68 switchbacks) to a saddle just north of Jones. The trail is in excellent shape. It’s wide with a nice dirt surface. The views are spectacular. I could see Catalina Island, the LA basin, San Jacinto, San Gorgonio and many other peaks. On the way up, you will be looking down at the Passionist Fathers Monastery. Once you reach the saddle, turn right (south) and follow the use trail a short distance to the summit of Jones. There is a bench at the summit but no register or benchmark.
From Jones, return to the saddle then follow the use trail north, then northwest to Hastings. There was a benchmark and a post but no register. I returned the same way.
