Ascent Trip Report

Canoed from the launch near Jackman at Attean Pond 1.6 miles upstream in a 4 man 20 foot canoe to the campsite at base of sally then hiked 2.9 miles up to summit. Returned same path and canoed back to car. Thus, 3.2 miles canoed and 5.8 hiked.

Trip was typical Maine mountain hike, however, i was peasantly surprised of the quality of the views on top of Sally. Views in nearly 360 degrees and with the nearby mountains very close it gives an up close and personal feel to the summit. I would rate this summit as one of the better views in the Greenville, Rockwood, Jackman area that I have completed.

The granite at the peak had an unusual pattern that almost looked like a sedimentary conglomerate which makes no sense. It looked like grantie with heavy feldspar embedded in a mortar matrix. Will have to ask a geologist what caused this unusual pattern.
