We were excited to find that for each of the 5 benchmarks visited during the loop hike, that all the Triangulation Station marks, Reference marks No.1 and No.2, and registers were all in great shape!
Recent rains and winds left the sandy hike to Camp BM and Dare BM with fresh sculpted firmer sand and thriving pencil cholla too. We were able to see lots of various distinct fresh animal tracks in the new sand too. Taking a direct route to Cut BM involved lots of boulder hopping and rocky wash crossings while traversing the large alluvial fan. From Cut BM to Wye BM we climbed down and up several large ravines before leveling out again to more boulder hopping terrain. From Wye BM to Shack BM we followed a wash with the grain for a bit, finally, then across the smooth sandy flat, passing a section marker along the way. Then back to the Jeep parked at the base of Noll BM, catching an awesome sunset over Coyote Mountain, bathing Dawns, Rabbit and Villager with its golden light.
