Ascent Trip ReportI just recently found this named peak in the Peakbagger database. It was the closest named peak not yet climbed by me. So today, I made the short trip from home to Kendallville, IN to make the ascent. When I arrived, I found that there was a paved drive to the top. There, a large, single-story building was found that houses the Dekko Foundation. As I was leaving, I was met by a caretaker who came out of the building to ask what I was doing. He then gave me a bit of history. He told me he is a retired truck driver of 33 years, and he has mowed the grass around the building for the last 17 years. The home was originally built by a member of the Dekko family and served as their residence. Nearby, on the southeast slope of the hill, sits a much larger home that is currently owned by one of Mr. Dekko's daughters. The day was clear, and the views were nice in about 270 degrees. To the west was a tree-covered slope, and this view yielded a bit of visibility since the leaves were off the trees. This was an easy drive-up, and a careful "climber" might be able to Martinize the summit - although the precise highpoint was difficult to distinguish. The caretaker said the top of the mountain had been leveled when the home was first built, and visual inspection in all directions confirmed this statement.
