Ascent Trip ReportHad been planning on doing the presidential traverse for quite some time, possibly a 2 or 3 day trip, but this plan ended up turning into a plan for a single day Nov traverse
We took off friday afternoon, dropped our south car at the AMC Highland center, then drove north and at a friends' place. We arrived at the Appalachia trailhead early morning and got an alpine start, hitting the trail at 02:30, a little later than our planned 2am start as we wanted to do the extended presi with all of the additional summits.
We struck gold and had a PERFECT day, 30 degree temps to start in the dark and then a cloudless, sunny, windless day in the 45-55 degree range on the summit - almost impossible in November. We hit some mild winds as night fell, but still great weather. We ended up taking longer than expected as we should have taken the Watson trail off of valley way to cut 30-60 min off our backtracking to get to Madison summit. Plus, we took ample breaks, having some Jack Daniel's on Mt Adams summit with some guys we met and celebratory Fireball shots on washington. Really wanted to hit up Jackson and Webster, however it was getting too late and I needed to drive 3.5 hours back home for work in the morning.
