Ascent Trip Report

Drove route to ensure no private property issues or dogs to attack me; then parked down at So. Cato Springs Road (SR 265) just north of the intersection of West Kessler Mountain Road (CR 201) about a tenth of a mile north of the spot elevation 1348. At this location, west of Cato Springs Road is a small turn out and neat stone bench that was built by the Daughter's of the Confederacy around 1910 if I remember correctly what the plaque said. The ground was around 1335 here and that was my TH. As usual, I am not interested in taking a hill feature that actually has some prominence and driving it. It is not a CHP so this is NOT a highpointing destination in my book it is a legitimate morning ascent up a prominence feature in a part of the country where there are not many steep hiking options. So, I maximized my outdoor opportunity and enjoyed the cool morning air at 60F and strong winds (a cold front was on the way!) and hiked up past all the houses and farms to the top where there is a couple of radio towers. The true peak is behind a gate with a no trespassing sign but it is easily bypassed if it looks like a quick tag and seeing nobody around, I hit the top quickly. I had no issues with any people or dogs at all. The fall colors were in full crimson and gold. Beautiful day.
