Ascent Trip ReportDrove for the first time up the East side to the Dolly Varden Mine area. Went way past Roach's recommended TH, and kept going, stopped above DV Mine at 13,300'. Could have made it another half mile northward to the due E side of Bross, then some snow was in the road. In summer jeeps can go to the Cameron-Bross saddle easily and on up to the top of Bross itself. Seen it a number of times. I was in my Isuzu Rodeo. Used 4WD low, but really it was pretty mellow, call it a 3 out of 10 on the 4WD scale. I wouldn't take a Subaru that high, but it could make it on a dry day. Kept walking on road to saddle, then left up to Bross top on a poor but driveable road.
Temps in the 30's to start, 54d back at the car. Left the car at 9:00, back at 11:45. Went to South Bross for my first visit there, then down the grassy E slopes right to the car. Lots of sheep everywhere. Beautiful day. A few people on Bross, about two dozen cars at Kite Lake normal TH, and we were told more were parked down that road some. Crazy weather.
