Ascent Trip Report

This is it! I finally did it, I climbed the 67 New England 4000 footers!!! After 8 years of hard work I have finally done it. This was not the only milestone that i had in my life that day, I met Sam in College, I was her Community Advisor at school. We've been together for just over 3 years now and live together in Southern Maine. She's been my everything: my hiking partner and best friend. Together we've climbed over 50 mountains together and today was our special day. Despite the completion of the 67 NE 4000 footers I hiked up with my two brothers and my sister in law and Married the love of my life at the summit of this mountain that day! It was a day we will not forget. We started the hike down at the bottom (Rapid Stream Trail head) and ascended from there. VERY IMPORTANT: getting to the trail head you will need a SUV/Truck, no smaller vehicles will be able to make it in this road, its extremely rocky and rough. The trail itself was a gradual incline until you hit the shelter area, then it started to get a bit more dicey. After about a 30 minute climb from this spot you will come to a huge exposed opening, from this point on you will be in the sun. This was much longer than i anticipated so you will need to pack a lot of sun screen and water for this trip. This part you might be able to do in 20-30 minutes, once you get to the top there is a emergency shelter just off the summit. There is an old Fire tower and across the arm of the mountain you will see a rock monument about 10 feet tall. We got married just below the summit on the opposing side of the monument heading towards Spaulding mountain just off the trail. it was an incredible day. My brother married us as a justice of the piece and we made our decent and redid the wedding at a place we rented at the Dallas Plantation in Maine an hour south. There are a few crossings as well, not to big but use judgement. it was an incredible day and journey. Off to climb the hundred highest and the 52 with a view in New Hampshire.
