Ascent Trip ReportParked at new trailhead since the Ravine Lodge is gone and a new lodge is being built. Construction crews were using the road when I arrived at 7am. The new parking adds about 1.5m to the trip since you can't park at the normal turnaround. After arriving (first and only car in the lot) I walked up to the trailhead only to realize I left my hiking pole in the car. Walked all the back (+1.5m) to get the pole, not a good start. Decided to get up to Moosilauke as directly as possible since I could see that the summit was snow covered. Decided to take the Gorge Brook trail and it was very easy going, never steep. Around 2900-3000' ft the ground was snow covered and by 3300' the trail was snow covered. Hiked to about 4200' (just below East Peak) before putting on traction. East Peak was completely covered and trees encased in 8" of rime, very pretty views of Franconia Ridge and Presidentials.
Walked the remainder of the way up to the tree line before putting on my shell pants and zipping up. Cold (25F) and windy on top (20-30mph) of Moosilauke but it was easy to get out of the wind. Searched for and found the geocache at the top before heading back down the Carriage Road. Took another stop at South Peak to take in the views and find the second geocache. Rest of the way down was easy on the Carriage Road and Snapper Trail.
Overall very easy hike, about 9.7 miles (probably closer to 12m with my pole mistake). Took 6 hours with 1 hour searching for geocaches and hanging at the top. Only saw 5 people (and 3 dogs) in 3 parties the entire day.
