Ascent of Mineral Mountain on 2016-11-05
|Date:||Saturday, November 5, 2016|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||7238 ft / 2206 m|
Ascent Trip ReportHiked up the road to Tip Top and then took the ridge to Mineral. From Mineral I dropped down to the road and walked back to my truck, which was parked on Tip Top Mountain Road. A total of about 6 miles with 1,300' gain. I took FS 2N01 from Highway 38 going through Broom Flat and then down to Round Valley and Tip Top Mountain Road. FS 2N01 was in good shape - it is a little rough at the beginning around where the PCT goes across it at Arrastre Creek, but gets better after that and stays pretty good all the way - 2wd high clearance will get you down it fine. Tip Top Mountain Road has some rough spots - 4WD high clearance can probably get you up close to the summit of Tip Top, but it would probably not save you much time driving it because you'd really have to be careful. Also, there is no sense driving up it if you're going on to Mineral.
