Ascent Trip Report

WTC Experience Trip: This was a laid back end of season trip to help a couple students finish their graduation requirements (annual trip for me). Tohru, Gina, Yosie and myself hiked in on Friday starting at the Lake George trailhead. After signing the register at the high point along the trail on the crest (register says Mammoth Crest but it's not the high point PeakBagger.com lists), we made our way down to camp near the lowest of the three Deer Lakes. It was a very cold and windy evening so we went to bed early and decided to start at 7am the next morning for the peaks.
We headed just about due South from our camp up the most gradual slope to the south ridge of the cirque. It was in the 30s with high winds blowing clouds over the ridge. Once atop the ridge we made our way through the trees (nice wind break) over to the western most talus slope leading up to the slightly lower high points on the cirque. We found a broken glass register bottle on top and left a new register book in a zip lock under a rock at the summit (I'll bring a proper container for it next year). We then headed over to the high point on the East side of the bowl. A little fun scramble to the top and we found the dark brown glass register bottle with the 1987 register inside, to my surprise we weren't the only people to climb this peak this year! After the requisite signing and photos we headed down the same way we came up and we're back in camp in time for lunch and afternoon naps.
Sunday we packed up camp and hiked out to Duck Lake and back down to our shuttle car at the Duck Pass trailhead.
