| Elevation:||10310 ft / 3142 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was a really fun hike, all on class 1 trail. I started from Upper Deer Creek Lane, taking the Kaiser Peak trail. Stopped off at College Rock on the way up, a quick little scramble with nice views. Ran into Dmitry Medvedev about 1 mile from the summit as he was on descent. It was quite cold and windy up on the ridge for the final 3/4 of a mile. Views were superb from the summit, looking out to the peaks of the high sierra to the north and east. On descent I came across a mama bear and her little cinnamon cub, probably out foraging for the upcoming winter. The encounter was fantastic, the 2 bears ran off about 100 yards and I got some great pictures. But the encounter sufficiently spooked me enough to make me abandon my plans of of doing a night hike later on that evening.
