Ascent Trip ReportDecided for our last day we would climb the Beartrap Fork Trail to Desolation Lake which is down in a cirque. The nice trail was consistently uphill to the edge of the cirque. It got very muddy at the top of the ridge from the recent snowmelt. Mtn bikers had passed through. Peter decided to stay on the ridge and eat lunch while I continued over 1/2 mile, 500', down to the lake, sat and had a snack and looked around and at the map, then hiked back up. A perfect fall day. Most of the aspen had lost their leaves, but the bare trunks and branches have their own beauty, especially with the sun shining. There was a breeze when we needed it to be comfortable. Nice destination, even though it isn't a peak!
