Ascent Trip ReportMeetup.com hike, 14er Fans, with Michael. We left Denver at 3 in the bloody morning, arrived at the Zapata trailhead after 6AM. It was just starting to get light in the east when we started just before 6:30. We had a little trouble finding the trail in the meadow, but we did find it. It wasn't too cold at the start, and it would be sunny all day, but the wind really picked up once we reached the ridge. The wind was strong pretty much the entire time we were on the ridge. We reached the summit around 10:30, ate lunch and took some pictures before heading down. We passed two hikers on the way down, the only other people we saw this day. There's been a fire burning near Pueblo recently, we could see a plume of smoke rising above the Wet Mountains to the north. Perhaps the high winds kicked it up again. The wind died down once we got down from the ridge and into the trees. We arrived back at the trailhead around 1:45PM. Total time up and down: 6:46:57 |
